Close (2022) directed by Lukas Dhont (Friends of Cinepur)
Hegemonic masculinity (popularly known as Toxic Masculinity) is defined as this ideal male behaviour normalised by culture tending to dominate not just women, but other men. In a patriarchal society like India's, there's this rigidity we bear witness to when it comes to how men and women behave, which is evident in the relationships we have with our friends, family, peers and so on. But if an individual's behaviour and actions don't "fit the societal norms", they are judged for it. That's what we get to see in the 2022 Oscar-nominated film Close, directed by Lukas Dhont.
